The University’s cooperation with Aix-Marseille Université (Aix), which began in 1957, is not only the oldest at the University of Tübingen (UT), but also one of the most active.
Collaborations exist across at least five faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Law.
Decades of commitment to the partnership have also led to many joint projects at all levels: there is a long tradition of joint teaching exchanges in many subject areas; Aix and Tübingen cooperate in research, and there is also a lively exchange between students, doctoral candidates and administrative staff.
The growing number of joint double degree programs should also be highlighted, underlining the special appeal of this strategic partnership.
TübAix
TübAix is an integrated German-French UT and Aix program for students majoring in history. It was established in 1990. In the complementary study program at both universities, Bachelor's and Master's students acquire a German-French double degree and can also gain intercultural experience in several semesters abroad.
Intercultural Franco-German Studies (EIFA)
The Master's degree program in Intercultural Franco-German Studies (Études interculturelles franco-allemandes - EIFA) is an integrated Franco-German degree program and leads to a double degree from UT and Aix. The program imparts solid historical knowledge of Franco-German cultural transfer and current developments in relations.
Franco-German research training group (CDFA)
The Franco-German doctoral program “Conflict Cultures / Cultural Conflicts” enables interdisciplinary studies and bilateral research approaches in the field of cultural conflicts. It comprises an integrated organization of doctoral studies by Aix and UT (reciprocal courses, bilateral supervision of PhD thesis projects, double diploma, research stays for doctoral students at the respective partner university, joint events and publications). Since 2022, the college has been expanded to include Heinrich Heine University as a third partner.
ENEE project (Enjeux d'une Nouvelle Éthique en Écologie)
Sensitized by climate change, science is setting a new ethical focus and the environment is becoming an international issue. This generalization has made the environment, in the broadest sense, a decisive factor for those who wish to behave responsibly. So, in this context, how can we combine the question of ethics with a renewed environmental awareness that is effective in the world of tomorrow?
