Requirements and application

The Bachelor of Education in Higher Teacher Education at Vocational Schools is an open-admission program, provided you meet the admission requirements, i.e. no application is necessary. You can enroll directly for this degree program. You can begin your studies in the winter semester; a start in the summer semester is only possible if this is possible also in the main subject.

The prerequisite for studying at the University of Tübingen is the general university entrance qualification, usually the Abitur, or another university entrance qualification, e.g. the Delta examination for prospective students with a "Fachhochschulreife" or a "Fachgebundene Hochschulreife" or a university entrance qualification for those with vocational qualifications. Applicants with foreign school-leaving qualifications should contact the Department of Counseling and Admissions for International Students.

Before you start your teaching degree course, you must participate in a teacher orientation test procedure, which you must prove at the time of matriculation. Various things are recognized here (§ 4 paragraph 2 Admission and Matriculation Regulations of the University of Tübingen ZIO): You can either take an online test (http://www.cct-germany.de/de/0/tours/new/1/bw , print out a confirmation for matriculation at the end of the round trip). Or you can get a confirmation of counseling at the Tübingen School of Education TüSE, at the Central Academic Counseling ZSB, the academic counseling in the subjects or at the counseling centers for academic professions of the Employment Agency.

In addition to a general university entrance qualification (Abitur or comparable school-leaving qualification), an internship of several weeks in a kindergarten, crèche or other family-supplementing daycare facility for children is recommended. A school orientation internship is not explicitly required, but is also recommended in case of lack of knowledge of the vocational school system.

The language of study and examination is German. Individual courses may be held in English. A good knowledge of English is expected for the study of literature. Therefore, knowledge of English is required. However, formal proof of English proficiency is not required. German language skills to the extent of DSH-2 (Testdaf4) are required for foreign students.

International applicants *without* a German-language university entrance qualification must provide proof of German language proficiency in accordance with the university´s matriculation regulations (see also information on proof of linguistic study ability / DSH language test).

The Bachelor of Education in Higher Teacher Education at Vocational Schools can only be studied as a general education second subject together with Social Pedagogy/Pedagogy and is free of admission in this combination. More information on the website of the Institute of Education.

Program details

180 credit points (CP) must be earned in the degree program. Of these, 102 CP are allotted to the professional subject of social pedagogy/educational science (93 CP subject science, 9 CP subject didactics), 60 CP to the general education second subject (51 CP subject science, 9 CP subject didactics), 12 CP to the study area of educational sciences and 6 CP to the Bachelor's thesis.

In mathematics, students learn the basics of calculus and linear algebra as well as numerics and geometry. In addition, they receive an optional introduction to algebra or stochastics and become familiar with the basic concepts of mathematics didactics. For more information, see the website of the B.Ed. program in Higher Vocational Education Second Subject Mathematics.

The 1st year of study is filled by the large compulsory module Fundamentals of Mathematics, in which the technical basics of analysis and linear algebra are taught from an academic point of view. In the 2nd and 3rd year of study you will deepen your theoretical knowledge. In doing so, you will expand your knowledge in the areas of algebra, geometry and stochastics. In addition to the subject modules, in the 3rd year you will take modules in the area of subject didactics and complete a Bachelor's thesis. This can be written in the vocational subject or in the general education second subject (in each case including their subject didactics).

Further information can be found on the website of Mathematics for the B.Ed. in Higher Teacher Education at Vocational Schools.

The Department of Mathematics runs a large number of student exchange programs with partner universities in various European countries. Further information can be found under Study Abroad
