Summary:
Project A01 addresses the contributions made by guanine-nucleotide exchange factors for small ARF GTPases (ARF-GEFs) to the generation of specificity in membrane traffic between compartments of the post-Golgi endomembrane system. Within the same cell, different proteins are simultaneously secreted, trafficked to the vacuole, endocytosed or recycled. Cargo proteins are sorted during the formation of a transport vesicle, which appears to involve - depending on the specific process - different ARF-GEFs and (possibly corresponding) ARFs.
