B3: Semantics of the aesthetic in German literature of the Middle Ages

Project B3 researches the aesthetic vocabulary of German literature of the Middle Ages and combines, for the first time, two complementary methodological approaches in a systematic manner. With regard to genre and on the synchronic level, the Middle High German Sangspruch will be analysed; with regard to lexemes and diachronically, the central term süeze will be explored. These fields of investigation allow us to analyse concisely the complex conditions of the genesis and social contexts of aesthetic terms, exemplifying the praxeological model of the CRC. The project aims at thus providing a new basis for the discussion of aesthetic terminology in the field of German studies that will also allow for an improvement in the comprehension of modern terminology.
